It will be a bit louder than usual on Saturday 4th August in Windsor town centre.
40 town criers from across the country and indeed around the world will be at Castle Hill from 11:45 competing in the 2018 National Championships of the Ancient and Honourable Guild of Town Criers.
The competition will run over two rounds with competing criers being judged on their diction, inflection, clarity and of course, volume.
Our own Royal Borough Town Crier Chris Brown will be hosting the event which promises to be quite a spectacle with criers and escorts dressed in elabourate costumes starting the day with a noisy ‘bells up’ procession from the Guildhall. With so many criers taking part it is expected that the competition will continue until around 5.00pm.
This year is the 40th Anniversary of the AHGTC, although criers have been a feature of Windsor life for many hundred’s of years.
Members of the public are welcome to come along and cheer on their favourite criers.
