The storm warning for Sunday 9th February 2020 has led the Crown Estate to formally close the park for the day. This morning the windsorgreatpark.co.uk website announced that “no access will be allowed to any Member or Visitor. Access gates and car parks will be closed as well as The Savill Building, Savill Garden and Virginia Water Pavilion.”
Weather reports predict that winds could occasionally gust over 65 km per hour. With many thousands of trees across the park’s 5000 acres there is a strong risk of falling branches causing a hazard to visitors. Back in 1987 the great storm resulted in hundreds of oaks being felled or damaged. Since then the number of visitors has soared and so the decision was made to close the park till the storm has passed.
