The court of appeal decision to halt the new Heathrow Airport Runway was greeting with joy by residents in Windsor Yesterday.
Plans for another runway at the airport just five miles from the historic town centre had promised thousands more flights over Windsor and Eton.
Pollution would have significantly increased but the court ruled that the additional runway ran counter to the Government’s legally binding plan to limit CO2 emissions.
A string of local Councillors appeared on television and radio yesterday to express their happiness at the news of the court’s ruling.
However, as Cllr Endicott noted on the BBC, this was probably not the end of the fight. Although the Government indicated they will not appeal the ruling, Heathrow’s owners will almost certainly be doing all they can to resurrect the plan.
